Insight on the self-ignition behaviour of RDF components

چکیده

Like for coal and biomass, the storage of Refused Derived Fuels (RDF) processed through a mixture of non hazardous waste has self-ignition (SI) risks. Some combustible waste fires have been associated to chemical oxidation (T>70oC), one of the self-heating (SH) mechanisms that occurs before SI. Literature about factors that influence these processes in RDF is scarce. Thus, main objective was to analyse the SH and SI phenomena on a RDF derived from municipal solid waste. The influence of RDF lignin-cellulosic content (20%20%. Therefore, RDF ignited once water vaporized. Unlikely, the SI temperature at the centre, 75-85°C, showed to be similar to the one of SH for dry RDF. Results denote that temperature and humidity should be monitored up to the centre of stored RDF to prevent SI risks.
